I think this one of my most favorite units of the year! It incorporates so much of the language we have learned during the year! Their task is to create an actual monster out of various materials, and they were also required to write a story as well about the monster they created. It gets the kids engaged and the language flowing!

This last week we had our school art show and the students were able to display their final product of our water unit! I was able to work with our art integration specialist to reinforce our water unit I had previously taught in Chinese. They were exposed to new artists and art techniques while learning about our earth's water. They did a fantastic job, and we our so lucky to have our art teacher, Ms. Widner! On Friday, we had our APEX fun run fundraiser! The kids did a fantastic job and they all ran their little hearts out! Thank you for all the donations and support. It was so fantastic to see parents come to volunteer and to cheer us on. Spring Lane parents know how to rock it! Today, we were able to start the day with our shoes off since we hit our fundraiser goal! The simple rewards are some times the best rewards! We also introduced Chinese Google classroom today. I think there are some days technology is either my friend or foe. However, this year it has definitely been on the amicable side as I have tried to integrate it more into my teaching. This week we began using Google classrooms which will allow the students to access assignments, quizzes, and Chinese activities online and will give me real time feedback. It will also allow parents to see what their child is doing in class. I'm in love with this and I'm excited to see the students integrate technology into their Chinese and math! This week we started our APEX fundraiser and each teacher had a parent come decorate their door. My parent did a fantastic job! It's my favorite animal and the kids go crazy over pandas as well! Each month we do our calendar art which integrates art, telling time, and patterning. This month, we focused on our beloved pandas. I've also posted one of my most favorite panda movies. The kids were rolling in giggles! We also had a visitor for school lunch. It's always fantastic to see parents at Spring Lane. :) The past two weeks have been filled with laughter, lots of red, and a better understanding of a whole new world of Mandarin! I've been surrounded by it for so long, I forget that many of you this is your first time celebrating the Chinese New Year. Here's a video that sums it perfectly! Today, we had a perfect ending to the New Year with a party celebrating traditions such as paper cutting, lanterns, firecrackers, dumplings, fan dancing, 红包(red envelopes), and some chopstick practice. We couldn't have done it without the support of incredible parents! Thank you so much for your time and help making this a fantastic party for everyone! I loved bringing the immersion and non-immersion classes together. These moments remind us that the Chinese New Year brings luck, happiness, peace, and good fortune to all! Enjoy the pics! |
