I want to inform you of some great resources I’ve added to my website! First, on the Resources page I’ve added a link to a website called Quizlet. It’s a free website where I have uploaded all the lessons we have covered so far this year. This page will allow your child to practice the characters through flashcards and interactive games.
Directions to sign up: 1. Log on to www.quizlet.com 2. Click “Sign Up with Email” 3. Register your information 4. Search for Ms. Ridge Spring Lane 5. You will select Ridge AM or PM depending on which session your child attends Next, I have added a page on my website titled Characters. If you click on the character, it will show you how to write the character, pronounce the character, and define the character. Once again, it’s completely free and will help reinforce everything we are learning in class! I hope these resources will be beneficial and will help you and your child at home. Also, please don't forget to sign up for SEP conferences. They will begin next week. Go on to Spring Lane's website to sign up for a time.

We have made it through our first two weeks of school, and I have been so impressed with what I have seen with this group of kids this year. It's always an adjustment for first graders to be at school for a full day, to learn how to sharpen their pencils, keep track of a homework folder, complete and return homework, tie their shoes, learn their phone number, lunch number, computer number, and all the Chinese numbers on top of it all! They have been working hard and I'm excited for what the year will bring.
I am also grateful for the great parent support. Trying to keep 30 kids engaged in another language is difficult. I try my best to make it my classroom environment as positive as possible. Please continue to encourage your child to participate, listen, and come to school ready to learn! I have also appreciated parents sharing with me new websites or Chinese apps they have found. I have posted a few on my Resource page. One great app is PLECO. It's an online resource to find the meaning of characters. If you come across a character that is unfamiliar, you can either use your phone to take a picture or write it on your device and it will find it for you. It will also give you the pronunciation and great examples of how the character is used. I am still currently looking for a website that will demonstrate the stroke order of the characters for parents to view at home. The resource I used previously is no longer available. I will keep you posted of anything I find. 谢谢你们! |
